Many pain conditions can be treated with injections or more advanced procedures, and they can be an important part of your overall treatment plan. The type of procedure which may benefit you is determined by many factors including your symptoms, history, and x-ray or MRI results. Injections of the spine are generally performed with real-time x-ray guidance, while injections of the joints (knees, shoulders, etc) may be performed with ultrasound guidance. Some procedures are performed as a series spread over weeks or months, while others are performed less frequently. Your physician will discuss the pros and cons of the recommended procedure.

Where will my procedure be performed?

Most procedures and injections are performed under sterile conditions in our office in a designated procedure suite.

Some procedures maybe performed in same day surgical centers.

Are these procedures safe?

Pain management procedures are effective and safe. Although side-effects to pain management procedures are extremely rare, the use of proper technique by our highly-trained physicians further reduces these risks. The procedures we perform are all well-studied and supported in the medical literature, and are all performed per the guidelines of leading pain associations.

What sedation will be used for my injection?

Your physician will use local anesthetic (Lidocaine) to numb the site of treatment to ensure that you are comfortable.

Can I drive myself home afterwards?

As a precaution you may be required to not drive following some procedures. Ask your provider before your scheduled procedure date. You may be asked to come to your procedure appointment with an escort.

You must inform your health-care provider if:

You are experiencing fevers, chills within the last few days

You are taking antibiotics for any reason

You are allergic to any medications or iodine

You are taking any blood-thinners, such as Coumadin, Plavix or Aspirin. If you are taking blood-thinners, we ask that you must receive clearance from the prescribing provider to stop them temporarily for most pain procedures
